DESCRIPTON OF CONSTRUCTION FILES FOR THE PHILIPPINES
1970-80 MERGED FILE
This is a datafile of the 1970 .02 sample of the census data and is located on the CSDE Workstation in the directory: /seafert/philippines/data/census70/PHIL70.DAT (to work with the data users should uncompress the file). A fortran program created the matched woman-child-husband dataset PHIL70STD.DAT. Documentation about the census data are located in the 1970 Population Census of Philippines .05 Sample - Master File: Data Documentation and Codebook. The files contains 53 variables; 1,651,506 unweighted individual records.
This is a data file of the 1980 .016 sample of the census data and is located on the CSDE Workstation in the directory: /seafert/philippines/data/census80/PHIL80.DAT (to work with the data users should uncompress the file). A fortran program created the matched woman-child-husband dataset PHIL80STD.DAT. Dcumentation about the census data are located in the 1980 Population Census of Philippines .05 Sample - Master File: Data Documentation and Codebook. The files contains 37 variables, 2,260,602unweighted individual records and 430,050 households. Data include individual demographic information as well as household characteristics.
This is a data file which includes information about women 15-49 years old whose data are then matched to their children's data (age 10 and under) and their husband's data (if they are married). The data are drawn from 1970 Philippines Census data. The file is a column delimited raw dataset (see 1970 standardized data record list). Any unmatched children in the household are attached to the first eligible woman in the household (for the matching algorithm refer to Cho et al. 1986) .

The data are located on the /seafert/philippines/data/census70/

This is an spss program file that reads the PHIL80STD.DATdata
to recode variables and create a 1980 analysis file:PHIL80STD.POR.
In particular, provinces are recoded to match the 1970 boundary definitions
(for more information, see the Southeast
Asia Fertility Transitions Project Documentation). The data are located
on the /seafert/philippines/data/census80/ directory and are in compressed
format.

This is a portable spss format data file of the matched women-child-husband
data (derived from PHIL70STD.DAT
). The file was created using the phil70std.sps
program located on the /seafert/philippines/create/census70 directory.
This is a portable spss format data file of the matched women-child-husband data (derived from PHIL80STD.DAT). The file was created using the phil80std.sps program located on the /seafert/philippines/create/census80 directory. The data are located on the /seafert/philippines/data/census80 directory.
This file contains the contextual variables for 1970 and 1980. The original SPSS program for creating these contextual variables is not available. The current contextual file was constructed by taking the mean of each variable for each district from the merged 1970-80 data file (an earlier version stored in a tape). The spss program is here.

This is a program which merges the 1970,80,90 fertility portable data
with the provincial or contextual data. The program is located in the /seafert/philippines/create/merged
directory.
PHIL78MRG.POR
This a merged dataset of the contextual data and the three censuses
(PHIL70STD.POR, PHIL80STD.POR, and PHIL90STD.POR). The data are located
on /csde/seafert/philippines/data/merged directory.
